Kharkiv built up a concept of Eurobasket-2015

On October, 24 the deputies of Kharkiv city council proved the Concept of preparation and staging of Basketball European Championship 2015.

The project is based on the experience of EURO-2012 in Kharkiv and also on the requirements of European basketball federation. For now Kharkiv is the only city of all the hosting ones where was such a concept approved. The whole preparation and staging of the tournament will be made on its basis.

According to the requirements of FIBA Europe the host city must provide a venue for the competition. The arena is planned to be built near the «Metalist» stadium as it is the best place for arena in the city. The point is that «Metalist» stadium is the place of EURO-2012 and all the essential infrastructure for staging mass sporting events is situated there. This district is appropriate from the point of view of cost and time minimization for the preparations to the tournament.

Kharkiv mayor Gennadiy Kernes noted that the city will consider a question of private investment input in the building of arena. The mayor also emphasized that this arena should be mixed-use – be suitable for basketball, hockey etc.
