The government considers a possibility of building surface metro in Kharkiv Experts explore the experience of building surface metro by the example of Americans and consider an opportunity of building it in Ukrainian cities, in particular in Kharkiv.

According to the site of Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine it was informed by Boris Kolesnikov, the Vice prime minister – minister of infrustructure of Ukraine.

«In the places where there is no historic buildings, not in the historic downtown, there is no sense going under the ground as it is 2,5 cheaper to practice cut-and-cover. In fact, instead of 1 km of underground one can build 3 km of surface metro. It means that today each million city can use this experience», - the Vice prime minister told. He also specified that the surface metro is profitable to build in Kiev, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk.

According to Boris Kolesnikov in case of building surface metro one will make maximal use of manufactures of inland producers - steel industry and machine industry.

According to the chairman of Kharkiv regional state administration Mikhailo Dobkin, the authorities of the region consider the variant of building surface metro. «Definitely surface metro is cheaper than the underground. Taking into consideration that in Kharkiv 1km of building underground is the cheapest for us it will be twice cheaper to practice cut-and-cover. The greatest problem is the real estate development in the city today. If we take into consideration the exploitation of railway equipment, we can see that the outgo from warm dry tonnel to cold humid surface in winter will lead to excessive ware of railway equipment. There are a lot of questions we are to investigate», -  Mikhailo Dobkin said. Along with this he also noted that if one compares the number of savings during the building of surface metro and estimate that this sum will cover at least the part of problems – surface metro is possible to engineer.
