13 Kharkiv sportsmen will take part in XIV summer Paralympic games 13 Kharkiv sportsmen will take part in XIV Paralympic games in London from August, 29 to September, 9.
 
According to the director of Kharkiv regional physical training and sports of disabled «Invasport» Mykolaj Ovcharenko, Ukraine select team consists of 150 sportsmen. Kharkiv will take part in four kinds of sports.
 
10 Kharkiv sportsmen will swim for the victory in Paralympics. They are Iryna Balashova, Yana Berezhnaya, Maksym Veraksa, Anton Ganzha, Oleksandr Golovko, Maryna Piddubna, Natliya Prologaeva, Andrij Syrovatchenko, Mariya Timofieva, Olena Fedota, for seated volleyball – Inna Osetyns’ka, for track-and-field athletics – Ivan Kicenko, for table tennis – Antonina Hodzinska.
 
Ukrainian sportsmen are represented in track-and-field athletics, swimming, archery, ICP football, table tennis, powerlifting, judo, fencing, seated volleyball, shooting sports, boat racing and cycling.
 
This Paralympics promises to become the most large-scale in history. 4280 physically disabled sportsmen out of 165 countries from all over the world will take part in it. 502 medals will be played in 20 kinds of sport. It should be noted that out of 13 participating countries which includes Ukraine as well there are more than 100 of our representatives.
 
We note that in past Paralympic games 2008 in Peking Ukrainian select team took 4th place having given the championship to USA, Great Britain and China. Ukrainian won 74 medals: 24 gold, 18 silver and 32 bronze. 9 medals including 4 gold ones were taken by Kharkiv sportsmen.
