A field meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management on the topic: "Familiarisation with the solid waste management system based on the experience of Kharkiv" was held today, 15 March, in Kharkiv.
The participants of the meeting discussed the current state and problems of processing and disposal of waste from the destruction caused by the armed aggression of the russian federation in Kharkiv and the entire Kharkiv Region.
Ihor Terekhov noted that the City needs support from the state budget and private investors to complete the reconstruction project of the Derhachi landfill and cope with the consequences of the enemy's attack on the oil depot in the Nemyshlyanskyi district.
"More than 8.8 thousand buildings were damaged in the City. And a lot of them need to be dismantled and recycled right now despite wartime. We cooperate with many companies, including JICA, and receive the necessary equipment from our partners. But this is still not enough. For example, let's take the shelling of the oil depot. Today, we are already bringing in new soil to replace the contaminated one, sending oil products for disposal, building barrier booms, and using appropriate sorbents. Such measures are expensive, but they are necessary," said the Mayor.
During the day, representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Committee also got acquainted with the project of the Derhachi solid waste landfill which has no analogues in Ukraine.
