Deputies of the Kharkiv City Council approved an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to ensure the salary fund for teachers of general secondary education institutions.
The decision was made today, 30 April, at an extraordinary session.
The appeal states that, given the security situation, Kharkiv has previously taken a number of unprecedented measures, including the arrangement of classrooms at metro stations and the construction of the first underground schools in Ukraine.
‘Without state support, the city is unable to restore the educational infrastructure destroyed by the enemy and provide safe conditions for the educational process, and most importantly, to keep teachers and students in the educational space of Kharkiv,’ the appeal says.
The deputies stressed that the approved amount of the educational subvention for the Kharkiv city territorial community for January-August 2025 does not cover the full cost of maintaining the existing school network. The additional funding referred to in the appeal will help to increase the ‘prestige’ allowance for all teachers by up to 20%.
‘This will motivate teachers to keep the educational front and ensure a high level of education for students who, despite the dangerous situation in the city, continue to study in the educational institutions of the Kharkiv city territorial community,’ the document says.
