Kharkiv sportsmen have left for winter Youth Olympic games which were going to start on the 13th of January in Innsbruck (Austria).
Ukrainian team will be presented by the following kharkovites: a skier Elena Shatalova, a short-track master Maria Dolgopolova, figure skaters Elisabeth Usmantseva, Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin at the meeting of young Olympians.
The farewell ceremony at the ground of the covered hockey field “Saltovsky ice” was accompanied by the show of the city CCYSOD pupils.
“It is completely different atmosphere at the Olympic games. The guys will be worried greatly, but if they manage to overcome their heartbeat and believe their own strength, they succeed definitely”, - the double Olympic champion, honorable citizen of Kharkiv Yury Poyarkov admitted.
The deputy of the mayor of Kharkiv on issues of family, youth, sports and preparing EURO-2012 Alexander Popov, the chief of department on issues of physical culture and sports of Kharkiv city council Vadim Artemyev, the deputy of the head of Kharkiv regional state administration Eugene Savin, executive director of the regional department of NOK of Ukraine Sergey Dushin and other honored guests came to see the children off.
Information: more than a thousand athletes of more than 100 countries are going to participate in the first-ever Youth Olympic games, which are going to act out 63 sets of awards in 15 kinds of sports during ten days.
23 sportsmen of Ukraine are going to participate in the Games.
