Geographic position

The city is situated in a generous valley at the feet of the Northern Apennines on the crossroad of important roads where the main city of the province with the same name and the administrative center of the city is Emilia-Romania. There passes a railway from the north to the South which unites the Centarl Europe with the capital of Italy Rome. And there passes an ancient arterial road Via Emilia from the west to the east.
 
Economics

Modern Bologna is a large administrative, economy, cultural and scientific center of Italy. The city has a well-developed industry. One of the important enterprises of the city is “SABIEM”, which production – elevators – exports to many countries of the world. There are a lot o fenterprises specialized in proceccing agricultural materials and producing food products; mills, suger, wine, jute, oil, preserve, cheese, pasta plants and factories. The constant Bologna fair works at Bologna where the products of Italian and foreign firms are exposed.
 
Historical places, culture, sports, spare time

Bologna is a city of museums, ancient palaces and other architectural places of different historical époques, such as, for example, San-Domeniko church with wonderful sculptures of Mickelangelo and a sepulcher by Nikkolo Pizano. A talented Italian architect Aristotel Fioravanti who created one of the most significant sights of Russian architecture Uspensky Cathedral in Kremlin was born in Bologna. There are creations of that talented builder.
 
Education

Bologna is an important educational and cultural center of Italy. The glory of Bologna is the university, one of the oldest in Europe 9founded in 1088), that is why Bologna has a steady name “dotta” which means “book wise”.
 
Twin city relationship

During a long period of time annual exchanges of official delegations and tourist groups were provided. There was exchange of people and ideas in various branches from medicine and management studies, business and trade to sports. Profitable for both sides partnership was organized with “Kharkivkommunpromvod”, “Elektrotyazjhmash”, producing cooperation “Instrument” and others. In September of 1992 the Union of businessmen of Kharkive region sent to their office in Bologna a list o ggoods which they were ready to export to Italy. They had been paid in barter system, that meant with cunsomer goods and products.

Days of Kharkiv and Bologna and Days of Bologna in Kharkiv were held regularly where active cultural exchange was conducted: varnishings of Kharkiv ornamental art, concerts of the actors of Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre, the best artistic teams of Kharkiv in Bologna, performances, plays of Bologna thetre of masks and popular rock musicians from Bologna in Kharkiv etc.
