Economics
A base of Kaunas industry is machinery, radio techniques, electronics and metal working. The plant “Pergam” products sheep mechanisms for refrigerators; the machinery plant named by Y. Greyfenbergeris produces central heating boilers, radiators etc. The machine-tools building plant has mastered a technology of extremely accurate coordinate boring out machine tools, the plant “Neris” has mastered producing of polishing machine tools. There is one of the biggeast in Baltic region cast iron foundry plants located in Petrashyunay. The radio plant is the biggest and the most modern enterprise of the city. Chemical industry is represented by the following enterprises: a plant of rubber boots “Inkaras”, a plant of household chemicals, the factory “Khimikons” (varnish and paint), pharmaceutic plant “Sanita”. There is more than a half of all the polygraph industry of Lithuania concentrate din Kaunas. A highly power-driven industry of building materials is created. The textile industry is represented by the following enterprises: large knitting factories “Cotton” and “Silova”. 14 scientific and research and project institutes work at solving the problems of industry and building in areas of thermophisics of high temperatures, cybernetics, energy etc.
