The Mayor of Kharkiv
He was born on the 27th of June of 1959 in kharkiv. A citizen of Ukraine.
He has a higher education: a jurist (the National Law Academy named by Yaroslav Mudry), Master of State Management (Kharkiv State Economy university).
He began his labor activity in 1977 at the Kharkiv plant “Svyet Shakhtera”. He had worked more than ten years at the state enterprises of the city since 1980.
He has found several trade and product companies since the beginning of development of private enterprise in Ukraine. In 1992-1994 he managed producing and trade company “Acceptor”. In 1999-2001 he was the first deputy of the director of Kharkiv branch of the subsidiary “Trade House “Gas Ukraine”. In 1994-1999 he was a Chairman of the Board and in 2001-2006 - a president of the open stock-joint company with foreign investments “NPK-Holding
He was a deputy of Kharkiv city council of three callings (III, IV, V). Twice (IV and V calling) he had been elected a secretary of Kharkiv city council
He had gone to the pulls in 1998 on the electoral ward № 23 for the first time.
He is a socially-orientated politician who created and headed an independent deputy group “New Kharkiv – new possibilities” and a public organization with the same name. the named organizations had a great support of kharkovites.
For the second time he became a deputy of Kharkiv city council in 2002 with support of more than 90% of electors.
He continued to protect interests of kharkovites, supported charity and social projects actively, provided ideas of reorganization of management of the city economy, became an active opponent of the city mayor Vladimir Shumilkin.
In 2006 he leaded the election campaign of Mikhail Dobkin on the post of the mayor of Kharkiv who won the campaign. A secretary of Kharkiv city council Gennadiy Kernes together with the mayorMikhail Dobkin initiated and developed a lot of reforms which the city council provided
In March of 2010 Mikhail Dobkin was appointed on the post of a head of Kharkiv regional state administration by a Decree of the President of Ukraine. Gennadiy Kernes became a deputy of the mayor of Kharkiv. He continued the reforms and provided system work according to the life of the city.
On the 31st of October of 2010 he was elected the mayor of Kharkiv.
A member of the Party of Regions. A head of Kharkiv regional council “Slobozjhanskaya Slava”. A head of Kharkiv city organization of the Party of Regions.
He was honored with a Letter of Award of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the honorable mark of Kharkiv regional council “Slobozjhanskaya Slava”, a Letter of Award of the regional state administration, thanks of religion, veterans, educational unions.
He has three children.
He is an active follower of healthy lifestyle.
